The Faculty of Agriculture carries out its core functions through two departments:

The Faculty of Agriculture (FOA) is the chronological successor of the Government Farm School, Jamaica School of Agriculture, and College of Agriculture which were all involved in the development and application of knowledge in support of the agriculture sector . The faculty of agriculture is mandated to prepare candidates for service in the field of Agriculture. Also, with CASE’s mission, the FOA has a unique mandate to conduct teaching, applied research, extension/outreach/public service.

Its role considers that CASE is Jamaica’s only designated Tertiary Agricultural Institution.


The Faculty of Agriculture carries out its core functions through two departments:
  • Department of Animal Science
  • Department of Plant, Soil Sciences and Engineering


1. DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL SCIENCE (DAS) Mission and Goals

The department seeks to provide education and training of the highest quality in the Animal Sciences and related fields through quality instruction, and is committed to the development and dissemination of information through research and outreach in accordance with the mission of the Institution. The department intends to promote and foster the development of individuals who are professionally qualified and in so doing respond to the needs of persons dedicated to excellence and to increased productivity of livestock enterprises.


2. DEPARTMENT OF PLANT, SOIL SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING (DPSS&E) Mission and Goals

The department is committed to providing education and training of the highest quality in Agronomy and related courses to men and women through teaching, research and outreach:

  • To provide quality instruction in Plant Science, Soil Science, Horticulture, Land Surveying, Plant Protection & Crop Production.
  • The Department intends to promote and foster the development of individuals who are professionally qualified, and in so doing respond to the needs of Jamaica for persons dedicated to excellence and to increased agricultural productivity.
