President of the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE), Rev’d. Dr. Mary Nichols offered a scholarship valued at over $250,000 to the Knockalva Agricultural School at their seventy fifth anniversary commemoration fundraising dinner held Sunday (June7), in Hanover.
President Nichols said she understands ‘too well’ the frustration of being brilliant without the opportunity to go further academically, and is the reason for her making the offer.
She requested that her counterpart at Knockalva choose a recipient who is “brilliant, well rounded, and is needy of the assistance to go further.”
Dr. Nichols stated that the scholarship is for the first academic year for any area of study in the fields of Agriculture or Science at the multi-disciplinary college in Portland.
She also pointed out the good relationship that both institutions share, “CASE is ‘the college of choice in the Caribbean region’ for the vast majority of Knockalva graduates annually. During this recruitment season, so far, 34 students of Knockalva have met our matriculation requirements and we anticipate having them. ”
The CASE delegation, at the fundraising dinner, also made other significant contributions toward the school development and improvement cause.
The CASE team of Knockalva 1982-1985 graduates pledged to contribute slides to the science laboratory while Mr. Richard Campbell, Winston Jones, and Joslyn Williams made a significant ‘on-the-spot’ combined financial contribution toward the school development.
